ABOUT US

The New York State Shields, Inc. is a non-profit organization, comprised of law enforcement officers active and retired from all ranks throughout the New York State area.

Established in 1990 as the New York Shields, Inc., we have now expanded ourselves and changed our name to the New York State Shields and have opened our membership up to all members of the Law Enforcement community throughout the United States.  Every day the men and women of Law Enforcement put their lives on the line in protection of this great state and country of ours.  Unfortunately, too many of them make the "Ultimate Sacrifice", their own lives.  Our purpose is to offer a strong support system to the families of those Heroes who gave their lives "In the Line of Duty", and to let them know that we do not and will not ever forget what they or their loved one's have sacrificed for us.

Throughout the year we also honor those officers who were injured in the line of duty and offer support to their families while they recover.  At our General Meetings, held throughout the year at various locations, we honor officers and civilians who have exemplified the highest traditions of law enforcement and selfless acts of heroism by presenting them with a Hero of the Month Award, and the Purple Heart, for those officers who have been shot in the line of duty.  Besides offering counseling and an on call chaplain and rabbi, as well as legal advice, we see that these families are never forgotten.  This is done by sponsoring events and outings for the families, such as Pocahontas On Ice, Garth Brooks at Central Park, the Radio City Music Hall Christmas Spectacular, the WWF Wrestling matches at Madison Square Garden, NY Yankee and NY Islander Hockey games and our annual Rye Playland outing, to name a few.

Each year we sponsor and escort families that wish to attend the National Law Enforcement Memorial services in Washington, DC.  At home, each May, the New York State Shields holds its annual Memorial Breakfast, honoring the families of those officers slain In the Line of Duty.  The Shields Medal of Valor is a beautiful tribute to these men and women and their families and has become one of the most widely attended and visible events in the law enforcement community.

Since its inception, the New York State Shields, Inc. has become one of the most visible and widely respected fraternal organizations throughout New York State, lending support to organizations who also seek to assist the surviving parents and families of those officers slain in the line of duty.  If you have any questions or need further information on the New York State Shields, please feel free to call our Hotline at:  (212) 576-8898.
