History

I would like to take this opportunity to give you a brief history of the Honolulu Police Relief Association (HPRA).

The HPRA began in 1932 when the Honolulu Police Department was founded. At the time, there were four objectives of the Association and they were:

  • Provide a life insurance program for our members.
  • Provide health insurance for our members. This is moot now since the employer provides health insurance.
  • Provide grants in aid for members in dire need.
  • Provide for fundraising to allow us to meet the three aforementioned objectives.

Everyone who is a current or retired employee of the Honolulu Police Department and has completed the HPRA membership application is a member. There are no membership dues. Those taking part in the insurance program pay a monthly premium. The monthly deduction is approximately $30 for a single plan, slightly more for a retirees, and a family plan.

Life insurance for our members is our number one priority. We continue to explore new ways of providing the membership with the best possible insurance at the lowest rates.

We provide fruit baskets for members who are hospitalized. We also provide money for the death of a member, spouse, or dependent. We provide floral wreaths in the event of the death of one of our members.
