Your Computer Security

Let’s talk computer security.  This is one thing that I can not do for you.  It is something that you need to do for yourself.   These days it is of the utmost importance that you run a good virus protection program and a firewall.  You should also have programs to locate spy ware that may have been installed on your computer without you even knowing about it.

For years I used a company called McAfee.  I paid $49 a year for their security suite.  Now I have found that you get just as good protection from free programs.  These programs are proven and highly rated.  So, here they are.  I urge you to take this advice to heart.

First is AVG put out by a company called Grisoft.   The address is: click here  That is for your virus protection.

Next is a firewall.  The firewall that comes with XP will not fully protect you.  Zone Alarm works well and is easy to install.  The address is: Click Here  Takes you right to the free download.

Now for spy ware.  Spy Ware is programs that some website put on your computer to tack what you look at and where you go.  If you have never scanned for spy ware I guarantee you that you have spy ware on your computer.

Here is Ad-Aware by Lavasoft.  Address: Click Here

And here is Spybot Search & Destroy.  Address: Click Here

Install the AVG virus protection and Zone Alarm and keep them up all the time.  Check for Ad Ware with both program every week or so.

Oh, and getting rid of Spy Ware will make your computer run faster.

Again old Masteryou have created a great news letter. Concise and to the point. I am glad to see that some of your recommendations are already installed on my computer.

Excellent information. Thanks. Everything I’ve read about Zone Alarm is positive–it’s probably the best protection program out there. As you point out, Spy Ware is a big problem, too. In that regard, for several years I’ve been using Webroot’s Spy Sweeper and think it’s the best and well worth the money.
