We find a trace of the first Mileurs in Lorraine, more precisely in Moselle since the 18th century. The proximity of this area with Germany let us suppose a german origin of the family in an older time, perhaps around the 16th or 17th century. We consider as a proof of this origin the changing of the name from "Müller" to "Mileur" and statistics on the patronymic frequence : less than 15 occurences of the orthography "Mileur" in the 18th century, instead of more than one hundred in the 19th century.

The exact localisation of the family birthplace is more problematical, at least at the older time. The orthographical variations of the name and the few information on Pierre Mileur must make us cautious. Two villages are clearly mentionned in the records of the 18th century: Lagarde and Torcheville. The Mileurs have had a strong expansion from Lagarde in the following century. About Torcheville, we only know that Pierre Mileur got married there for the second time and had children, but we ignore if there were any siblings. We do not know either where Pierre was born: consequently the notion of "family birthplace" is meaningless before the 19th century.
At that time indeed the Mileurs began to proliferate. What we call nowadays the "Mileur Land" is constituted by a set of about twenty villages situated in the same area: so all the people called "Mileur" in this area were necessarily related to each other.

These places were: Vého, Xures, Bourdonnay, Ommeray, Lagarde, Azoudange, Languimberg, Donnelay, Marsal, Gelucourt, Tarquimpol, Rhodes, Torcheville, and many others.

Today no relative is living there anymore. After the annexation of Moselle by the Prussians in 1871, most of the Mileurs emigrates to others French regions and sometimes abroad. It doesn't remain either any trace of the Mileurs in this area but a very old tomb in Lagarde where lay Marie Lapique, the mother of François Mileur, and her daughter Marie Mileur. The following list lets us imagine how many Mileurs were inhabiting Moselle in the 19th century:
